Side hustles for teachers

Teaching leaves you with two scarce resources — evenings and summers — and one abundant one: skills other people pay for. Every option below is drawn from our catalogue of 250 ventures and filtered for work that reuses lesson planning, assessment, subject expertise or classroom management, rather than asking you to learn a second profession.

Figures are typical monthly ranges at the listed weekly hours. Lower ends reflect a first paying client; upper ends reflect an established roster or a product that keeps selling. The lightest weekly commitment here is College Essay Coaching at 6 hours.

How to choose between them

Term time and summer reward different work. If you need income during the school year, pick something billed in short sessions you can schedule after the last bell — tutoring, test prep, study-skills coaching. If you would rather front-load the effort into a summer and be paid afterwards, build an asset: printables, a course, an editing roster.

Check your contract and district policy before taking private clients, and never tutor a student currently enrolled in your own class.
